Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLIONEL GREGORY BALLENDINE Passed away in Gladstone on August 26, 2010 at the age of 67 years. Lionel was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 2, 1942. He was the only child of Anna and John Ballendine. He was educated in Winnipeg and after high school went to complete his electricians training. He then apprenticed to become a linesman. Lionel was employed by the City of Winnipeg from 1965 to 1995 (Department of Traffic Signals). He retired and moved to the rural area at Gladstone where he enjoyed renovating their home, yard work and the wildlife in the area. Lionel enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He spent many hours working in his shop, tinkering and fixing things. He was predeceased by his parents Anna and John; an infant son Kenneth; uncle Steve Juba; brothers-in-law Ken Ferguson and Rod McAskill and by his sister-in-law Lois Bellyou. Lionel leaves to mourn his passing his wife Valerie; daughters Kim (Mark); grandchildren Andy and Sam; Tracey and grandchildren Bonnie and Robyn and by his son Greg. He is also survived by many sisters-in-law Jan McAskill-DeRe, Cheryl (Ian) Revie, Heather (Bob) Burchett, Bobbie Ferguson, Verna (Bob) McClintock, Betty (Gordon) Cogar and brothers-in-law Alan (Sharon) McAskill and Eldon Bellyou; many nieces and nephews and their families. Lionel enjoyed small gatherings of friends and family, he had very strong work ethics and always worked diligently until the task was completed. He was always there to lend a hand and shared his knowledge willingly. In respect of Lionel's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. A small family interment will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Seven Regions Palliative Care or to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation in Lionel's memory.
