MIRIA CUMMING August 25, 1916 August 30, 2010 It is with great sadness and wonderful memories that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Miria Cumming on August 30, 2010 at the Riverview Health Centre. Predeceased by her husband, Gordon in 1988, son Gerald in 1986, brother Louis Furlan in 1985 and brother, Fr. Aldo Furlan in 1963. She was also predeceased by her parents Amelia and Marco Furlan. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Ken and wife Chris, and grandchildren Mike and Heather, daughter Carolyn and husband Roy Smith and grandchildren Lindsay and Shannon, daughter-in-law Judi and grand-children Paul and Tom and her brother, Marco Furlan. She will also be missed by her attentive and supportive nephews and nieces Danny, Lou, Eileen (Ian), Anita, Chris, Mark (Keri) and Aldo. Mom was born on August 25, 1916 in Winnipeg. She was the eldest child and only daughter of Amelia and Marco Furlan. Growing up in the 20s and 30s was tough but Mom always spoke fondly and with humour about her early life in Winnipeg, Kennedy, Saskatchewan and Zoppe, Italy. Nonno and Nonna created a warm family life and there always seemed to be plenty of friends and funny characters to make life enjoyable. In 1943, she married Gordon Cumming and together they raised three children, Gerald, Kenneth, and Carolyn. Mom was a devoted mother and proud grandmother to her six grandchildren. She was really looking forward to the birth of her first great-granddaughter in October of this year. She was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church and Catholic Woman's League. Her deep faith was a source of strength and comfort to her during her 94 years. Miria was especially proud of her Italian heritage and she maintained frequent contact with all the relatives in the old country . She loved reading, knitting and cooking for family. Many family and friends were lucky to receive a package of her famous biscotti. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MB Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Timothy's Parish at 135 John Forsyth Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2N 1R3. The family would like to send a special thank-you to Dr. Brian Sharkey for his care of Miria throughout the years and the compassion he showed to her and her family in these last difficult months. Also many thanks to the staff of 3E Riverview Health Centre for the loving care provided to Miria. Cremation has taken place.
