DENIS RIEL Peacefully on August 30, 2010, at home, Denis passed away at the age of 94 years. Denis will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, Omer (Mimi) of Montreal, Roger of Winnipeg; daughter Leona (Ted) Johnson of Tuscaloosa, Ala; seven grandchildren: Debbie (Jason), Pam (David), Barbara (Andy), Cindy (David), Robert (Debbie), Michelle (Derek - deceased) and Suzanne; sisters Fern and Patsy, brothers John and Louis, 10 great-grand-children, and special friend Angele. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Noella, four sisters and one brother. Dad was born in 1916 in the home of his grandfather, Joseph who was a brother of Louis Riel . This house was associated with the life of Louis Riel, his wife and children and today is known as Riel House . Before Dad was married, he worked for market gardeners. Later, he became employed with Canada Packers for 43 years, but always had a garden, which developed into a hobby in his retirement years. Prayers will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street, with viewing at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 3 at St. Emile Roman Catholic Church, 556 St. Anne's Road, officiated by Fr. L. Roy and Fr. G. Lavallée, O.M.I. Burial will follow at the St. Vital Cemetery Catholic Section. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
