CAROLE DIANA THICKSON (nee LINGO, WONG) Aged 65 of Kelowna (formerly of Winnipeg), passed away on August 26, 2010 at home, surrounded by her family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving spouse William Bill Thickson of Kelowna and her five children: Judy Lingo of Kelowna, Debbie (Frank) Rehm of Kelowna, Carole (John) Welden of Saskatoon, Richard Anstruther of Los Angeles, and Darren (Patti) Thickson of Lake Country. She also leaves behind two sisters: Jeannette Wong of Winnipeg and Linda (Wally) Shepherd of Winnipeg as well as 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Marlene (John) Sanguinetti of Edmonton, AB and good friend Carol Gillis of Winnipeg. Carole was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She worked in a variety of jobs throughout her life until she retired in 2001. She enjoyed many interests and was a devoted pet owner who loved and cared for many dogs over the years. She was highly skilled at sewing, knitting and crocheting. She loved golfing, reading and bingo. Those who knew Carole will miss her strength and her outspoken, lively personality. She loved her family and close friends and made events memorable. Carole's courage and determination helped her overcome many challenges throughout her life and helped her throughout her battle with cancer. She was an inspiration to many and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. At Carole's request, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. Special thanks to the B.C. Cancer Clinic, Kelowna General Hospital, Ambulatory Care and Interior Health Home Care for all their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA.
