JACQUELINE (JACKIE) JANE DAVIE (nee PURKESS) May 11, 1931 August 27, 2010 Surrounded by her family, mom passed away peacefully on August 27th after battling COPD for many years. Mom will always be lovingly remembered and never forgotten by her son, Thomas (Barb Greiss), daughter Patricia (Mike) Wattis, her granddaughters, Tiffany, Michelle (Jarrod) Street, sister Helen Kyle, brother John Purkess, brother-in-law, Archie Orlikow, nieces Shelly (Bob) Lane, Tracy Baldwin (George Iluk), nephews Bill Orlikow, Jim (Linda) Orlikow and numerous friends. Jackie was predeceased by her husband Bill, parents George and Vera Purkess, sister Marguerite Baldwin, brother-in-law Bill Kyle and sister-in-law, Helen Orlikow. Mom was born in Walkerville, Ontario and moved to Winnipeg as a young child where she lived for the remainder of her life. Growing up in River Heights, mom made many lifelong friends at Queenston, Robert H. Smith and Kelvin schools. After graduating from Kelvin, she began her working career at Federal Grain, where she met the love of her life. Dad and Mom were married in 1954 and began their family. Mom enjoyed many a fun filled afternoon splashing in her pool with her granddaughters or anyone who happened by. An afternoon was never complete without a gourmet dinner that mom just happened to whip up. Whether it was a summer BBQ, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or just a Sunday dinner, her house was always filled with wonderful food, love and laughter. Mom loved to travel and went to many memorable places. She was an avid bridge player; playing in the duplicate bridge group, the Athlone ladies bridge group and the University of Winnipeg ladies bridge group right up until her passing. Mostly, she loved to entertain! There was always that incredible food that all who knew her will remember so fondly. And of course, fun and merriment, and Jackie's laughter. That was our special Mom. Jackie's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Grace Hospital - 3 South for the care and compassion showed to mom and her family during her final days. In accordance with Jackie's wishes, cremation has taken place and an afternoon of remembrance will be held September 15th at Jackie's house between 3:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Lung Association of Canada, the Humane Society or a charity of your choosing.
