DELORES RUTH SMITH (nee GERUS) July 22, 1932 - July 7, 2010 It is with profound sadness that we announce that Ruth passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario, with Larry, her beloved husband of 53 years, at her side. Ruth was predeceased by her parents Lydia (nee Kozub) (1964) and Nicholas Gerus (1969) and her grandson Michael David Letham (1992). Ruth was born in Winnipeg. She attended Lord Selkirk School and continued her education at the University of Manitoba, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. While working in the medical laboratory at Deer Lodge Hospital she met Laurence Howard Sidney Smith. They were married in Winnipeg on April 26, 1957 and soon moved to Ontario where Larry pursued a career with the Ontario Provincial Police. Ruth also pursued her professional career and exercised her talent, skills and ability working for many years in numerous hospital laboratories and other medical laboratories in the private sector, as they were transferred from one posting to another throughout Ontario. Ruth is survived by her beloved husband, Larry, of 53 years, their children Geoffrey Laurence Richard (Stacey) of Barrie, Valerie Joan Letham (Brian) of Barrie and Gordon David Sidney of Orangeville; grandchildren Merydie, John and Tracey Smith, Jonathan and Mark Letham and Taryn Smith. Our dearest Ruth is also survived by her brother David Edward Gerus, sister-in-law Geraldine Joan, nephew Nicholas David Gerus and his wife Colleen Angela, their daughter Brittany Alexandra and son Joshua Ross David; niece Lisa Alexis Moodie and daughter Amanda Kirsten; nephew Clinton Paul Gerus, his wife Margo Elaine and their children Jack Edward Rodney, Liam Nicholas and Logan Charles, as well as Aunt Pearl Jenner, Aunt Helen Warren and several cousins. Our family extends sincere gratitude to the medical staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital for the care and compassion extended to Ruth during her last days. God looked around His garden and found an empty place He then looked down upon His earth and saw your loving face He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest His garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. You've left us precious memories, your love will be our guide, You live on through your children, you're always by our side. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, For part of us went with you on the day God called you Home. We thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new, We thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. We think of you in silence, we often speak your name, Now all we have are memories and pictures in a frame. Some may think you are forgotten, though on earth you are no more, But in our memories you're always with us, just as you were before. A million times we've thought of you, a million times we've cried, If loving could have saved you, you never would have died. You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you, you're always by our side. Remembering is easy, we do it every day, It's just the pain of losing you that never goes away. With love, your Family and Friends
