Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL SOBKOWICZ It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Michael Sobkowicz announce the peaceful passing of their father and grandfather on Friday, September 3, 2010 at the age of 74 years. Remaining to cherish his loving memory are his children Grant, Sherry (Scott) Farr, and Charlene; grandchildren Brandon, Ryan, Kristen and Kaelyn Farr; and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife Norma (nee Smith) in 2008, sister Anne Sobkowicz and parents Martin and Lena Sobkowicz. Mike was born in Winnipeg on September 18, 1935, grew up in the North End and lived his entire life in Winnipeg. He started working for the Greater Winnipeg Gas Company in 1957 reading meters. He spent his entire working life there until his retirement. In 1963 Mike, Norma and her parents purchased Toniata Lodge at Falcon Lake. Although it was a lot of hard work there were many memorable times to be had. Us kids would eagerly await at the big sign for Dad to arrive every Friday evening. One Friday he arrived with a surprise for us kids, a rabbit that we called Happy! We remember fondly when Dad would take us kids in our pajamas at night to see the bears at the dump, trips to Majors Bakery at West Hawk Lake, and to Ingolf. We could always count on Dad to take us onto the boat to Cooks Island for a picnic. It was a sad day for him when it came time to sell Toniata in 1974. That was a time in his life that he talked a lot about. Dad was an avid animal lover and as a result we always had pets in our home. His faithful dog Piper still waits for him at the foot of the bed. You could always find Dad around the radio on Saturday evenings listening to Ukrainian music (The Polka Party). He liked to watch boxing on TV, Chinese food, and fishing. His pride and joy were his grandchildren whom he saw often. Although he enjoyed their visits immeasurably, he had a special bond with his oldest grandson Brandon who he affectionately called Bubby. The two of them were inseparable. Whether is was going fishing, to Wayne's, weekends at Bissett, to Mitzies for chicken fingers, or simply puttering around in the garage, these are times that Brandon will cherish forever. Grandpa will be missed greatly. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Concordia Hospital for their care. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, with viewing one half hour prior to the service, a reception to follow. As he always said Goodnight, never Goodbye, so Goodnight Dad until we meet again. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
