Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLORIA MAE MAY (nee REICHERT) After a lengthy illness, Gloria, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was promoted to Glory on September, 6, 2010 from the Health Sciences Center with her husband and son at her side. Gloria will always be remembered by her beloved husband of 48 years, Stephen, her loving children Cathy (Kelly) Ganong, and Mark (Tara) May, her grandchildren, Deirdre, Alycia, Jesse, Jayme, Spencer, Keira and Connor and great-grandson, Kory. She will also be missed by her sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, niece and nephews as well as many friends. Gloria was predeceased by her beloved daughter Della, her brothers Carl, Robert and Howard, as well as her parents, Anthony Tony and Gladys Reichert. Gloria was born in Camp Morton, Manitoba, on January 22, 1943. She was a Soldier of the Salvation Army, Winnipeg East Community Church. Her association with the Salvation Army began as an infant when she was enrolled on the Cradle Roll. As a child and teenager, she attended Sunday school, Brownies and Guides where she learned skills that she could use later in life. As a young woman, Gloria became a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Home League group for women. She met Steve at the Fort Rouge Corps Youth Group at the age of 16 and it was love at first sight. At the age of 19, they became husband and wife. They were truly soul mates and their love for one another was evident right to the end. In later life, she was a member of the Senior Steppers group and attended Bible Study and Sunday services at her corps. Family was very important to Gloria. She was supportive of her children's activities, proud of their accomplishments, and always there for her grandchildren. She was a great cook and her family will remember the wonderful Christmas dinners that she served. Gloria enjoyed travelling and camping with her family. Although a quiet person by nature, she had a good sense of humour. She was a good neighbour and would help anyone that she could. Gloria worked in the Admitting Department of the General Hospital (Health Sciences Center) for 10 years. Throughout her long, trying illness, her faith did not waver. She knew that she served an awesome God who was with her sickness as He was in health. Gloria will be sorely missed by all those who loved her, but we know that we will meet again in Heaven with all those who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Her family deeply appreciates the support and prayers of her church and friends who have upheld both Gloria and Steve during this difficult time. Sincere thanks to Kim and Eugene for making meals and assisting in so many ways. A public viewing will take place on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army Winnipeg East Community Church, 401 Henderson Hwy. A service celebrating Gloria's life will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salvation Army Winnipeg East Community Church. A private family graveside service will be held a later date. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army Winnipeg East Church, 401 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB, R2K 2H4.
