WILLIAM JOHN (BILL) PETRANICK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Bill Petranick on September 5, 2010. After a brief but courageous battle, Bill passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on the Palliative Care Unit at SBGH. Remaining to forever cherish Bill's memory are his wife Dawn, and his children Scott and Jason. He is also survived by his brother George, Sybille and Thomas; and his in-laws Dean, Deb, Stacey and Jamie; Heather and Norman; Ted, Marnie, Aaron, Sean, Jodi and Madison. Bill was predeceased by his parents Charlie and Mary Petranick and his parents-in-law, Pat and Barbara Sherritt. Bill was born March 12, 1954 in Morden. His early years were spent on the family farm near Miami. In 1964 his family moved to Morden, where Bill completed his schooling. He then furthered his education at HSC, graduating in 1975. Bill was very proud of his career as a Respiratory Therapist specializing in neonatal care and education. He retired in January 2010 after 27 years with SBGH and was excited to start a new phase of his life as a Clinical Support Specialist with BOMImed. Bill was a friend to everyone he met and he treasured the many friendships he made at work and in his personal life. Bill enjoyed reading, movies, dinosaurs, cars, ball fields and hockey rinks but dad's greatest love was his family. He was always eager to participate in and watch Scott, Jason and his nieces and nephews in their lives. We were fortunate to experience numerous family vacations which has left us with many special memories and much laughter. We will miss him greatly. Dawn and Scott would like to thank all their family and friends for their love and support throughout this difficult time. We would also like to thank everyone involved in his care for their concern and compassion. Funeral service will be held at Windsor Park United Church on Saturday, September 11 at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Sharon Wilson officiating. Private family interment precedes the service. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation in support of the Bill Petranick Education Fund for Respiratory Therapists #9290 or a charity of one's choice. Kowalchuk's Funeral Home, Souris, in care of arrangements.

Bill and I graduated the same RT class at HSC, and we worked together at St. B. from 1975 to 1980. Hard to believe how long ago that was. Bill was a great friend and I know how much of a contribution he made to the department at St. B. and to the public he served. And now he's gone, and all we'll have is the pictures and the memories. I'm sure Bill is putting the pedal to the medal in his 70's Firebird while driving around heaven, cause that's how I'll remember him. Peace forever, friend. - Posted by: Rob Wiebe (Friend) on: Sep 10, 2010
