Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHERINE ELEANOR WICKS (nee ZACHARY) August 28, 1912 to August 23, 2010 Kay passed away peacefully at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg with family by her side. Kay was predeceased by her husband Sidney George Wicks in 1985. Left to cherish her memory are her son Gordon (Barbara Dunstone), dearly loved grandchildren Terry Acland (Andrew), Don (Stephanie) and Wendy Pearson (Vance) and great-grandchildren: David Acland and Kalli and Cody Pearson. Kay was born in Fraserwood, Manitoba to father Marco Zacharkiw and mother Helen Gretchen. She was the middle child of nine and the last member to pass away. She moved to Winnipeg at a young age and worked at Picardis. She fondly remembered the summers she spent working at Yoho Valley in the Canadian Rockies. Kay was a gregarious person who made friends wherever she went. She had a special rapport with children and they loved spending time with her. Kay had boundless energy and walked many miles a day. She was an excellent cook and an accomplished seamstress. Kay was a good athlete and bowled at the Uptown Lanes for many years. She became president of her bowling league. Kay's greatest passion was attending the horse races at Assiniboia Downs. Many winters were spent in Florida as well as Arizona where she frequented the Greyhound race tracks. The family would like to sincerely thank the devoted staff on the second floor of the Convalescent Nursing Home who took great care of Kay over the last six years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Gordon, you're not as funny as you think you are! - Mom
