JUNE MCKAIN June Elizabeth McKain passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at her home in Burnaby, British Columbia in her 85th year after a long and valiant battle with chronic lung disease. June was born in Souris, Manitoba on June 1, 1925, the youngest of the three children of James and Ethel Wilcock. After completing high school, June moved to Winnipeg and graduated as a registered nurse from the St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing. She took post-graduate courses in psychiatric nursing and administration and attended the University of Winnipeg part-time for many years. Always caring, calm and competent, she rose to the head nurse's position in the medicine ward at Grace Hospital and was then promoted to head of housekeeping. Married to Harvey Cameron (Cam) Nairne in 1946, June had four children. Warm and easygoing, she loved her many good friends, especially her bridge club and curling buddies. Predeceased by Cam in 1977 and her brother Arthur in 1978, she moved to Texas to be near her sister Edith and in 1984 married David McKain. She was predeceased by her son Kirk Nairne and David McKain in 1986 as well as her sister-in-law Hedy Wilcock in 2000. June loved to travel, especially to the Black Hills and Hawaii. Her most epic trek was a summer long caravan to Fort Worth, Texas two years ago in a special oxygen-equipped RV, piloted by her daughter Michelle with the able assistance of her niece Colleen. The final visit to her Texan family and friends was memorable. June is survived by her three children, Michelle, James and Michael, her sister Edith and brother-in-law Carl, her sisters-in-law Lois and Jamie, her brother-in-law Jack, her daughters-in-law Lynn and Joanne, her son-in-law Curtis, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her goddaughter, many cousins, nieces and nephews, her special friends Vivian and Ruth and her many relatives and friends on several continents. A celebration of life is planned in both Vancouver and Ft. Worth. In memoriam, the family suggests that donations be made to the Canadian Lung Association at www.lung.ca.
