ELSIE WALKER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great- grandmother Elsie Walker, at the age of 91, on August 18, 2010 at the Eriksdale Personal Care Home. Elsie was born on July 19, 1919 in Winnipeg, MB. She was in a foster home until she was 16 and then moved to Eriksdale to live with the Hollanders. She lived with them until she met Harry and they married on November 4, 1950. They bought a farm north of the Clydebank School and farmed there until the spring of 1977. They then moved to Eriksdale until Harry passed away in 1981. Elsie then moved to the Leisure Lodge where she was the first resident. She entered a contest to name the new lodge, won the contest, and had the honour to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremonies in the spring of 1984. She lived there until the spring of 2004 when she went into the Eriksdale Personal Care Home. Mother loved going to dances and especially liked the Schottiche. She also loved playing cards with her family and her Friday night Bingo. She was a member of the Clydebank Ladies Club for years. She also loved hummingbirds, so when you see one, think of her. Elsie is predeceased by her husband Harry, survived by her four sons, Jerry (Linda) of Courtenay, BC, Ernie of Eriksdale, MB, Dennis (Colleen) of Okotoks, AB, and Bruce (Sarah) of Lake Manitoba First Nation, MB; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Natalie) of Courtenay, BC, Richelle (Joel) of Halifax, NS, Jim (Tabatha) of Winnipeg, MB, Sarah (Dan) of Winnipeg, MB and their mother Roberta Baryski, Adam (Lindsay) of Canmore, AB, and Terri-Lynn (James) of Edmonton, AB; seven great-grandchildren, Logan, Jenna, Kailyn, Mikayla, Alexis, Emily and Evan. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at the Eriksdale Recreational Centre with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Lunch will be served following the interment at the Eriksdale Municipal Cemetery. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Eriksdale Personal Care Home for their special care, and especially for the wonderful care of our mother during her last few months. A big thank you to the Clydebank Ladies Club for serving the lunch. Mother would be very happy and always loved their dainties. Also a special thank you to Arnason Funeral Home for all their great compassion and professionalism they have shown us in our time of sorrow. Also a thank you to all our friends for their cards and thoughts. At our mother's request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eriksdale United Church, in care of Carole Boychuk, PO Box 234, Eriksdale, MB R0C 0W0.
