ETHNA IWANICKI (nee WITHERS) March 5, 1940 Sept 10, 2010 Peacefully and after a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer, Ethna passed away surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her loving spouse Donald, her three children: Alan (Helen), Julie, Lorrie (Gord) and a stepdaughter Donna (Shane). She also leaves behind her wonderful sister, Betty (Sam), as well as 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a lifelong friend Kathy Oliver (John). Ethna was born in Belfast, N.I., and came to Canada in 1968. She dedicated 18 years of her life working at Meadowood Manor Nursing Home, as a housekeeping aide which she enjoyed very much. She retired in 1996. When Ethna found out she had Cancer in 2008, she knew she had a long battle ahead of her. She fought this battle with great strength, courage and tenacity. Towards the end, it was her amazing spirit that allowed her to hold on. Ethna was a wonderful wife, mother, nannie and friend. All who were lucky enough to know Ethna, immediately fell in love with her lively and lovely personality. Even though she was fighting the battle of her life, she never complained and somehow always had a smile on her face. Her legacy will live on in many ways and in many lives for years to come. Special thanks to Drs. Lotocki, Popowich, Abdul, Elliot, and all of the best possible staff on B3 at St. Boniface Hospital, known as members of the Chocolate Bar Club, the family adores you all. At Ethna's request, cremation has taken place, and a private family gathering will take place at a later date. Flowers are gracefully declined; it was Ethna's request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Variety Heart.
