VIOLA PHILIPPON Viola Philippon, the last of nine children of John and Matilda Hartman, passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on Friday, September 10, 2010. Viola is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Richard Philippon; five children: Ruth (Ed) Wiebe of Nakusp, BC; Stanley (Debra) Philippon; Orvile (Maretta) Philippon of Hilbre, MB; Sandra (Alan) Smith of Hilbre, MB and Elaine (Reg) Cayer; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Viola was born November 27, 1923 just outside of Fort Qu'Appelle, SK and was raised on her parents' farm alongside her older siblings. In Regina, she married Carl Bruno (Ruth's father), but was divorced in 1951. She met Richard who was travelling with Casey Shows (a travelling Midway) and they were married in Richard's home town of St. Vital, Winnipeg in November of 1952. Together, she and Richard built and operated a thriving small business and happily raised their family. Viola's green thumb was a source of great contentment and her skillful use of knitting needles has produced innumerable sweaters and baby blankets to keep her loved ones warm. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. We wish to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Internal Medicine Ward at St. Boniface Hospital for their kind attention to our mother during her illness. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire memorial donations may be made to Viola's favourite charity, Muscular Dystrophy Canada, 2345 Yonge St., Suite 900, Toronto, ON M4P 2E5. A memorial service celebrating Viola's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald St. 253-5086
