CLEO GRANDE (nee LOVALLO) After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, we sadly announce the peaceful passing of Cleo Grande on September 10, 2010 at the age of 96. Cleo was predeceased by her husband, Francesco (Frank) Grande and her six brothers and sisters. Left to cherish her memory is her brother Dave Lovallo (Kay), her daughters Sally Vermette (George) and Maria Pearson (Barry) and son Pat Grande (Vivian) as well as eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Cleo was born January 20, 1914 in Winnipeg. Most of her childhood was spent caring for her siblings when money was scarce. This laid the foundation for what the essence of Cleo was; a loving caregiver and provider. Cleo learned the value of hard work at an early age, working at countless caterers, restaurants and nursing homes. Her family was everything to her, and she would do whatever necessary to make sure her family was provided for. Cleo's greatest passion was cooking and nothing made her happier than having her family and friends together to enjoy it. As a final fitting tribute, a party was held in her honour days before her passing. Surrounded by loved ones and her favourite Italian foods, Cleo was, for one last time, the ultimate caregiver and provider. A more fitting farewell there could not be. A mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Cleo has left a lasting legacy of generosity, caring and love that will remain with all those who knew her. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Victoria General Hospital for their care and compassion. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Viewing at 10:00 a.m. a half hour prior to the Mass. Reverend Father Sam Argenziano Celebrant. Interment in Transcona Cemetery, 5014 Dugald Rd., Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Cleo Grande's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
