VIOLET SIGFRIDUR EINARSON (nee BERGMAN) Violet Sigfridur Einarson (nee Bergman) of Gimli, Manitoba passed away on September 11, 2010 at the Gimli Betel Home. Violet was born in the Lundar, Manitoba area in 1922, the third child of Jon and Minnie Eyford (later Sigurdson). In 1924 or 1925 she was adopted by Sigfus and Vigdis Bergman who lived in the district of Husavik, south of Gimli. Here she was raised along the banks of Willow Creek, attending Husavik and Gimli schools. In 1940 Violet married Palmi Einarson. They resided in the Minerva district and operated a mixed farm for 30 years. Later, Violet worked as a cook at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli until 1983. Violet and Palmi raised three children: Lynn, who died in 1976; Judy, who resides in Langley, BC, and Gary, who resides in Gimli. Violet was predeceased by her birth and adoptive parents, her husband, Palmi, her son, Lynn, brothers, William, Lincoln, Raymond and Magnus, and sisters, Christine and Edith. She is survived by her daughter Judy MacKinnon (Rod), son Gary Einarson (Linda), grand-children, Sherri (Bernie), Brian (Alanna), Michelle (Wade) and their mother Patty Wilcox (Colin), Jennifer (Jamie), Colin, Jonathan, Bjorn and Erika, as well as 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two brothers, John and Frank, and three sisters, Vicky, Gloria and Gladys, all of Washington State and all members of the Sigurdson birth family. Violet was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She was a full partner in farming with Palmi as she worked hard in the dairy business. She was a proud member of the Minerva Ladies' Aid and a willing leader with the Minerva 4-H club. Violet enjoyed farm animals, particularly horses, gardening, knitting, sewing, movies and her Icelandic heritage. Violet moved into Gimli Betel Home in 2006 as she required personal care to help her cope with Alzheimer 's disease. The family appreciates the care she received and the numerous visits made by friends and neighbours over the years. We will cherish our memories of her. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Home chapel in Gimli, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Violet's memory to Gimli Betel Home or the Gimli Humane Society. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
