LIONEL GEORGE WRIGHT Suddenly on Monday, September 12, 2010 at the age of 88, Lionel George Wright passed away at the Victoria Hospital following a brief illness. Dad dedicated himself to Irene's care for five years. She passed away in 2005. In 2007 Dad found happiness again when he wed Joy. Dad boasted he had two successful marriages. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife Joy, daughters, Darlynn Wright, and Robyn (Jack) Forbes of Rathwell; six grandchildren Ashley, Shannon, Scott, Ross, Chantal, Breann, his brother Donald, cousins and the Cumbers' clan. Lionel was born in 1922; his parents were Fort Garry Pioneers. His first job was delivering groceries on his bicycle for his Dad's store on Byng Place. He joined the Navy during the Second World War and served on two ships. He remained involved with the White Ensign. Later, Lionel worked at Canada Cement Lafarge for many years. As a young adult Dad was an excellent goal tender. He played for the Cornwall Cougars. He ended his pursuit of a professional career in exchange for family life. Dad remained an avid sports fan and was an enthusiastic Bomber supporter. Following a private interment, a celebration of Lionel's life will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 59 Academy Rd., with Pastor Scholz and Dennis officiating.
