LEONA MARY SLOTEK Peacefully, on August 14, 2010 at Rouge River Centenary Hospital in Toronto, in her 89th year. Leona Mary Slotek (nee Shanoski) was born June 28, 1922 in Transcona, Manitoba. At 15, living in Sudbury, Ontario, she met and later married Nicholas Slotek and supported him through a life in politics, construction and retail (for a time, they jointly operated a grocery store in Winnipeg's North End). Her positive personality was expressed by her years as a Sears phone rep, where she won employee awards. She was an avid singer, and recorded an album as a member of the Prosvita Choir in Thunder Bay. She was also a member of the Catholic Women's League in Transcona and the St. John's Cantius Society. In recent years, she was an active resident of the Ina Grafton Gage Home of Toronto. She will be missed and is survived by her daughter Lorraine; her sons, Larry and Jim; daughters-in-law, Lynne and Bianca; grand-children, David (and partner Olivia), Dan (and partner Sheila), Amy (and husband Tolga), Kate (and partner Mike), Michael and Jacob; and great-grandchildren, Sam, Andrew and Orlando. A service was held for Leona at Ina Grafton Gage Home on August 23, 2010. An interment ceremony will be held in Transcona on October 8.
