EVELYN MARY TAYLOR (nee HANSON) Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, it is with regret that we announce the passing of Evelyn Mary Taylor on Friday, September 10, 2010 at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 88 years. Remaining to forever cherish Evelyn's memory is her daughter Susan Florence Proven; sons, William Arthur Taylor, Laurence Douglas Taylor; daughter-in-law Sofia Mendoza Fragosa; grandson Morgan Proven; brother-in-law Ernie Cruise; nieces in Winnipeg, Janet and Heather Cruise; nieces and nephews in England; Patrick, David and Marita; niece and nephew in British Columbia, Helen and James. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas Taylor in May 2004; mother Margaret; father Arthur; two sisters, Janet and Gertrude. Evelyn was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on August 30th, 1922. After graduating high school in St. Thomas she moved to Winnipeg to join her elder sister Janet, and to work as a housekeeper for a doctor on Grosvenor Avenue. She then went on to work as a switchboard operator at the telephone company in Winnipeg. After the outbreak of the Second World War, Evelyn joined the Navy Wrens to work as a telephone operator here in Canada, before going to Great Britain later in the War. She married her husband Douglas Taylor in England in 1945, who was also in the services, and whom she had known and loved before the war in Winnipeg. Upon returning to Winnipeg in 1948, Doug and Evelyn purchased a home in the West End at 911 Clifton Street where they raised their three children; her main work being as a homemaker. Evelyn occasionally worked outside the home for Elections Canada. She was an active league bowler and swimmer, and also enjoyed playing bridge. She loved to entertain guests and travel. Evelyn and Doug travelled the world extensively. Our mother was a very kind and generous person; a spirited woman with a zest for life who was always fully dedicated to all she undertook. She was involved with and supported the Anglican Church, St. Patrick's in her parish. On Thursday, September 23, 2010 Evelyn's Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in St. Andrews Church, 2700 Portage Avenue, with Rev. Ian Mills, presider. Interment will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Minnedosa, Mb. Pallbearers will be Ernie Cruise (honourary), Laurence Taylor (honourary), William Taylor, Keith Proven, and Morgan Proven. Flowers are welcome.
