CHARLES DOUGLAS MCKENZIE The family of Charles Douglas McKenzie announces with great sorrow his passing, with his family at his side on September 15, 2010 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Charles was born January 31, 1928 in Grenfell, Saskatchewan. Left to mourn his passing are his devoted wife of 55 years and best friend Gwenn, daughters Marcia McKenzie-Hodge (Brian Hodge), grandson Kurtis, and daughter Sandra (Doug) McKenzie, granddaughter Krystyn and grandson Kenny and also his beloved cats. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Charles was predeceased by his parents Jessie and John McKenzie, sisters Florence Stringer, Buddy Ransom, Catherine Stringer and brother Jack McKenzie. Charles (Chuck) grew up on the farm in Grenfell, Saskatchewan where he excelled in both academics and sports graduating with the Governor General's Medal. He attended the University of Saskatchewan where he received both a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was also a valuable asset on the University of Saskatchewan Huskie's football team. Dad also enjoyed being a disc jockey on the University of Saskatchewan radio station. Dad's career saw him achieve success with Sears, Texaco, Government of Saskatchewan, Great West Life and culminating with his position as the Director of Finance and Administration with the Manitoba Provincial Government. Charles was very proud to have gone to Victoria, B.C. to attend Naval training as an Officer in the Naval Reserve. Dad was a voracious reader and was well versed on a multitude of subjects. He thoroughly enjoyed being a member of Breezy Bend Country Club and St. Charles Country Club many years where he made many friends in his men's leagues and excelled in his golf skills. Dad was also a huge animal lover in particular his special cats. Dad was extremely proud of his daughters Marcia and Sandra and of his grandchildren Kurtis, Krystyn, Kenny as well as his son-in-laws Brian and Doug and all of their many accomplishments. Charles and Gwenn have many fond memories of their travels to Europe, Hawaii, and Florida over the years. The family wishes to thank Dr. Al Schroeder, the many medical professionals at Health Sciences Centre and Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home for their care and compassion during dad's lengthy illness. A private memorial interment for immediate family only will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, Manitoba Kidney Foundation, CancerCare Manitoba. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
