GORDON KENNETH HILLYER It is with great sorrow the family announces the sudden passing of Gordon Hillyer, aged 55 years, at his residence on September 19, 2010. Gordon Kenneth Hillyer was born in Ashern, MB on September 16, 1955. He lived in the Homebrook area all his life. Living in the Interlake at the top of Lake Manitoba brought great joy to Gordon. He loved the land and would never have left it. Gordon farmed his entire life, initially starting in grain then moving to cattle. His cattle herd took him his entire career to build and he took great pride in it. In his younger years he trapped and ran a trap line for lynx, having great success. Fishing was also a hobby for Gordon and he even went as far as to dig an 18 foot trout pond on his front lawn in order that the fish were never far from home. Hunting was always a fall tradition whether for goose or deer. He acquired many friendships with his hunting partners. Gordon and Dolores were married on June 26, 1982. They and their children were all involved with the ranch. Gordon and his family shared many adventures on the ranch and Gordon was very proud of his family. Great joy had been added to the family when granddaughter Raelynn was born on January 19, 2010. Gordon is survived by his wife Dolores; children Danny (Krysta) and Lisa (Kelvin) and granddaughter Raelynn; two brothers Harold (Gail) and David (Anna), along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and grandparents. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the St. Martin Community Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment to follow in the St. George's Anglican Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Kitchur, Jim Baker, Barry Baker, Glen Baker, Ronald Ryan and Larry McDonnell. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
