HAZEL RUBY CHMIELNICKI (nee TOCHER) It is with great sadness and deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother Hazel Chmielnicki on Friday, September 24, 2010 after a beautiful fall day, her favourite season, at the Gimli Community Health Centre with her family by her side. Mom was born on March 10, 1928 in Mair, SK moving to Beausejour in 1937 with her family. She often spoke of her years living and working on the farm along the Brokenhead River. In 1947 Mom married our Dad, Ed and they resided in Winnipeg. They enjoyed many years at our 4th Ave., Sandy Hook cottage until they were able to finally retire at their dream home on Husavik Road where they spent the happiest years of their lives. We are so grateful that Mom was able to reside in her home until her passing. Mom loved nature and animals. She so enjoyed sitting outside in her park and watching her birds. Everyone was always welcome at Mom's house and she loved having visitors to sit around her kitchen table and have a drink. She loved country music and dancing, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #182 in Gimli. Mom was predeceased by dad in 1998, parents Anne and Scott Tocher, sisters Millie and Bernice and brothers Mervyn, Don and Scotty. She is survived by her daughters Beverley (Calvin), Sharon and Brenda (Gary). She is also survived by her grandchildren Jeffrey (Emily), Michael (Amanda) and Cody who meant the world to her. Nanny had a special bond with each of them. She so enjoyed having Michael living with her for the past year. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Caden and Brooklyn whom she loved dearly and looked so forward to their visits. Mom is survived by her sisters Joyce Obie and Betty Greschuk, both of Beausejour, and many nieces, nephews and friends. As per Mom's request, there will be a casual graveside service at the Husavik Cemetery on Hwy. #8 just North of Husavik Road on Saturday, October 2 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of Mom's life which will be at her home. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at the Gimli Hospital for their wonderful and compassionate care, and also the Home Care workers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gimli Humane Society, Box 1999, Gimli, MB, R0C 1B0. We love you Mom and will miss you so much, xoxo Nanny I hear you Nanny calling my name, When I turn around to see your smiling face, You are not there. We never thought this day would come But sadly now it is here, No more pain or suffering No more heartache to endure. We will terribly miss your adoring ways and all the special times we shared, The precious memories of you just being there. You watched over us from the very beginning and were there throughout everything we did. So until we meet again Nanny, In our hearts we know that you will always be near. We love you Nanny, you will never be forgotten because you will be missed so very dearly every single day of our lives. Love Jeffrey, Michael and Cody, xoxo Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
