Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEVE SHACHTAY November 3, 1927 - September 24, 2010 With heavy hearts and sadness we announce the death of our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Steve Shachtay passed away with his daughter Beverly by his side the evening of September 24, 2010 at the Arborg District Health Centre. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Caroline, his daughters, Beverly (Percy), Rose Marie and Darlene. His grandchildren, Daryl (Sabrina), Jeff, Lori (Trevor), Derek and Caroline; his great-grandchildren, Byron, Alex, Jaden, Coty and Summer; his sister Marie; sisters-in-law Helen, Rita, Martha, Minnie, numerous nephews and nieces, cousins and numerous good friends. Steve was predeceased by his parents Katie in 1980 and Michael in 1967; sisters Helen, Ann and brother Mike, and infant brother Nick. Steve grew up on a farm in Morweena and farmed most of his life. He retired at the age of 70 but, because of his love for country living, he remained on the farm until moving to Arborg in 2005. Steve enjoyed many things in life and always enjoyed his life exactly the way it had been. He enjoyed visiting with friends and always welcomed visitors. He looked forward to playing king pedro and cribbage. He enjoyed the sport of hunting and has numerous deer racks of proof of his hunt. He enjoyed trapping and was fond of all the change of seasons and looked forward to each as they were a gift. He enjoyed dancing with his wife and looked forward to polkaing to what he called a good Ukrainian beat. In his later years, during his retirement, he enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and was always proud of the garden he and his wife grew. He enjoyed berry and mushroom picking and had greater love for the pies his wife baked. One of his greatest admirations was his wife's delicious cooking. Steve was an outdoor lover and respected all that the creator had to offer. He found the brighter side to anything and everything. He was a very content man. Steve suffered a stroke in 2007 but he fought hard to regain his speech and movement of his right leg and arm. In 2009 he was struck with cancer in which he continued to battle till taken away by angels. The family would like to express our dearest thank you to Dr. Shenoda and Dr. Siddiqui and the kind-hearted care providers at the Arborg and District Health Centre. The care you showed our dad was always above and beyond and all the nurses were his favourite. To the Home Care workers from Arborg and Fisher Branch that visited while being at home and to the staff at Riverview Rehab Centre in Winnipeg for again allowing Steve the ability to walk and use of his arm again. A thank you to Dr. Andrew McKay at the Health Sciences Centre and Dr. Anozie of Selkirk Hospital. Please know that everything from everyone was recognized and appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arborg and District Health Centre, Box 10, Arborg, MB R0C 0A0. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Arborg. Interment will follow in Morweena Cemetery. Dad I never real let you know how sorry I was for all those mistakes I had made in my life which really made it hard for you and mom to relax and enjoy life - instead you lived in worry and restlessness mostly because I did not want to listen and take directions on how to live a life with full of purpose and love. I always thought the fact that it was my life and I could live it anyway I felt. Never really stopping to think of all those worries, hurts and fears I put you, mom and the. rest of the family through. I hope you are settled back with all your family and friends now. I miss you very much and think of you everyday. Love you more than words can say. - Posted by: rose darch (daughter) on: Oct 18, 2014
