GORDON FREDERICK COLLINS Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, Gordon Frederick Collins died Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Montreal. Gord is survived by, and will be dearly missed by his loving wife Hilda (nee Peters), his sister Elizabeth (Lib) Downes, his brother and sister-in-law Jim and Lucette Collins, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Kay and Norman Collins, Hilda's parents, Olga and Herman Peters, and his brother-in-law Grant Downes. Gord was born October 15, 1933 in North Kildonan, MB, where he attended Lord Kitchener School. After his family's move to Sturgeon Creek, he attended Bannatyne, and Linwood Schools, and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Chartered Accountancy. He started his career in Kenora with Dunwoody, Saul and Smith; moved to Lynn Lake with Sherritt Gordon Mines, to Winnipeg with Building Products and Coal, and later to Montreal, Vancouver, and back to Montreal with Genstar and Imasco. Gord was a longtime volunteer for many organizations, including the Trans Canada Trails, where he assisted the Accounting Dept. for many years. He was a Past Master of the Beaver Ionic Lodge #25 of Winnipeg, and also a Past Master of the Royal Albert Edinburgh Lodge #25, G.R.Q. He is currently Very Worshipful Brother Gordon Collins, Grand Tiler of the Grand Lodge of Quebec. He was a member of the Shriner's Comedians of Winnipeg, and a member of Greeters Quebec, who drove children to and from their appointments at the Shriner's Hospital for Children. Gord was an avid bird watcher, but his greatest passion was his sail boat, Wind Quest , on which he enjoyed many outings and races as a member of the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club, Montreal. Hilda would like to thank their dear friends who have given them enormous support over the past months; the medical teams who worked so hard to try and save him, and the hospital employees who gave him compassionate care in his final days. A Masonic service will be held in Montreal.
