GORDON POERSCH It is with profound sadness our family announces the passing of our beloved father, Gordon Poersch, 89 years of age, on October 4, 2010 at the Victoria General Hospital. Dad was born in 1921 and raised on the farm on the SE quarter 19-6-1 E (near Rosenort). He met his wife Mae while working at a grain elevator near Morris, Manitoba. They married in 1950 and had three sons. Their life revolved around their large extended family. He enjoyed a long career with Manitoba Pool Elevators, first as a grain elevator agent, then a warehouseman and finally working in the construction department. Gordon retired in 1981, two years before Mae passed. He was fortunate to fill the void of her loss by travelling with his siblings and friends to many locations around the globe. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed his time fishing at the cottage and hunting with his brothers at Netley Marsh. He volunteered his time freely with the church and sang in the choir at Lindenwoods Manor. He was always much loved for his kindness and generosity as a father, grandfather and father-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents Frieda and William, wife Mae, sister Margaret and her husband Bill Ukrainec, sister Irene Johnson, brothers Herbert and Norman, brother-in-law Art Neumann and sister-in-law Beth Poersch. He is survived by his sons Neil (Doreen), her daughter Carla (Kimber Osiowy), their children Jack and Cole Osiowy; Dan (Shelagh), their children Alana (Mark Vandal) and Ben; Dave (Graca), their children Alex and Tiago. He is also survived by his sister Edith Neumann, brothers Richard, Lloyd and Bob, brother-in-law Fred Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Interment will follow in Thomson In the Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Gordon to the Alzheimer's Society, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or to Ducks Unlimited Canada, P. O. Box 1160, Stonewall, MB R0C 2Z0. Special thanks go to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital and Lindenwoods Manor for their compassionate care and support to Gordon and his family.
