Born: Jun 23, 1940
Date of Passing: Oct 02, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryART HARDER Art Harder was born on June 23, 1940 and passed away peacefully on October 2, 2010 at the Boundary Trails Health Centre with his loving, devoted wife of 46 years and best friend, Mary (nee Wall) at his bedside. Left to cherish his memory are his two children, Steve and Angela and her husband John Gilchrist. Also left to remember the joy he brought into all of our lives are his brothers and sisters, Ed and his wife Margaret Harder, Esther Enns, Ruth and her husband Brian Hildebrandt, brother-in-law Henry Loewen, and a very large Harder family of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews! He is predeceased by his parents as well as his sister Evelyn Loewen, brother-in-law Alfred Enns and sister-in-law Anne Wiebe. Art was born to Margaret and (Pastor) Cornelius Harder. He was the second child and the first son. He grew up on the farm five miles north of Hordean and went to school in the Melba district. He attended teachers college in 1959 at age 19 and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in New Kennedy. He then taught in Steinfeld for a few years and then in Gretna for 28 years. He taught for a total of 36 years and volunteered for three years teaching the Arts and Crafts program after retiring. He enjoyed his 15 years of retirement and his life was filled with the many hobbies like painting in the winter, golfing and gardening in the summer and he loved cooking all year round, just to name a few. He will also be remembered by the 700+ students he taught over the years, along with the many teacher colleagues, fellow artists and painters, golfing partners, baseball teammates and dear friends. His testimony is that he accepted Jesus as his Saviour and was saved at the age of 10 at Gimli Bible Camp, and testified to this later in church. He later reaffirmed his faith while in the Boundary Health Centre. Our very special thanks to Pastor Jake Froese. Our thanks also to Dr. Woelk, Dr. Menzies for their outstanding care as well as the unbelievably kind and accommodating staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre CancerCare and Palliative Care for the exceptional care provided to our father and husband. Interment will be at the Altona Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, with the Memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Altona E.M.M. Church. If friends and family so desire, donations may be made to the Boundary Trails Health Centre - CancerCare Department. Arrangements by Wiebe Funeral Home, Altona.
