CHARLIE LLOYD JOHNSTON Charlie Lloyd Johnston of Cranberry Portage, Manitoba, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010 at the Flin Flon General Hospital at the age of 79 years. Charlie was born at Mafeking, MB, to parents Walter Gilbert Campbell Johnston and Dorothy Louisa (Zarn) Johnston. He lived there, Overflowing River, MB, and Cranberry Portage. On March 8, 1956, Charlie married Doris Florence Lily Mary Johnson. He worked for the Department of Highways Manitoba Government for 45 years until his retirement May 31, 1991. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snow sledding and quadding. He was a member of the Anglican Church, the Cranberry Portage Volunteer Fire Department, Cranberry Curling Club, Cranberry Portage Community Club, and Minor Hockey involvement. Charles was predeceased by his parents Campbell and Dorothy Johnston, sister Edith McGregor, son Gerald Johnston, and brothers-in-law Walter McGregor and Albert Cottrell. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Doris, brother Dale (Merita), sister Ethel Cottrell, children Joanne (Brian) Schuman, Cathy (Gord) Fidierchuk, Lloyd (Sharon) Johnston, Mark (Dodie) Johnston, grandchildren Kelly (Kevin) Ackerman, Dallas (Jana) Fidierchuk, Kyle (Alesha) Schuman, Bradey Fidierchuk, Leigh Johnston, Natasza Johnston, Dylan Johnston, Ethan Johnston, and great-grandchildren Tyson Ackerman and Claire Schuman. Funeral services for Charlie Johnston were held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from St. Peter's/St. James Anglican Church in Flin Flon, Manitoba with Reverend Raymond Knight officiating. Honourary pallbearers were his grandchildren, Kelly Ackerman and Kyle Schuman, Dallas and Bradey Fidierchuk, Leigh and Natasza Johnston, and Dylan and Ethan Johnston. Usher was Stan Wilson. James Murray presented the eulogy, and daughter Joanne Schuman did a reading from Ecclesiastes 3:1-13. Memorial register attendants were Joan Wilson and Anne Murray. Honour Guard were members of the Cranberry Portage Fire Department. Special music was by his granddaughter Natasza Johnston on the violin. Following interment at Cranberry Portage Cemetery, the Grace Church, Catholic Church and Legion Ladies served lunch at the Cranberry Portage Legion Hall.
