ALLAN ERNEST MCCAFFREY Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada August 22, 1926. Allan passed away peacefully at home October 4, 2010 in Palm Desert, CA. He will be greatly missed by his family, his loving wife Darlene (Dolly), his four children: daughters, Patty (Mike), Rose-Marie (Mike), Michelle, and son Kevin. Allan took great pride in his grandchildren Michael, Bill (Sabrina), Chris, Adam, Sean, Bryan, Dan (Latanya), Jeff (Phoebe) and Jeremy as well as his four great-granddaughters, Madelyn, Cecelia, Katrya and Charissa. He is survived by his sister Doreen and brother Gerry. He was fondly referred to as Uncle Al the Kiddies Pal by his nephews, nieces and close family friends. Allan was predeceased by his wife Irene, brother Ernie, daughter Sharon and stepson Randy. He proudly served in the Canadian Navy during the Second World War and resumed his career with Manitoba Telephone. In 1957 he moved to the United States to work for General Telephone, retiring as a Senior Engineer in 2005. Allan shared his charismatic personality through his storytelling, humour and warmth. He had a unique way of communicating and made anyone in his presence feel special. Allan was active in many organizations, including the Royal Canadian Legion, Knights of Columbus, Curling Club and various community based associations. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, October 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 West Slauson Avenue, Culver City, CA 90230. Donations gratefully accepted to the Canadian Cancer Society or Prince Edward Legion, Branch 81, 300 Trent Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2K 1E7.
