EVELYN FERN KNYSH (WAHL, FRASER, nee HORDAL) May 2, 1937 to October 8, 2010 It is with sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother on Friday, October 8, 2010 at the age of 73 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital after a long struggle with cancer with her family by her side. Mom was born May 2, 1937 in Lundar, MB. She attended school in Birch River and then lived much of her younger years in Lynn Lake where she married Melford Charles Wahl who predeceased her in 1959. Much of Mom's enjoyment in life came from spending time with her children and family, enjoying her involvement with the Rossdale Ukrainian Dance Group, being a 4H leader, her many years of bowling, travelling and in her later years her love of quilting. Mom spent many years involved in bookkeeping and office work for the family business and always had a yearning for lifelong learning, enrolling herself in computer classes at the age of 60. Fern was predeceased by her parents Valdimar and Ethyle Hordal, son Troy and step-son Ronnie and her sister Darlene. With her passing, Fern leaves to mourn her daughters; Kerry Wahl of Whitehorse, Yukon and Brendyce Sararas (Brian), and her sons; Scott Knysh (Lise), Jay Knysh (Leigh), all of Winnipeg as well as step-sons Randy, Richard, Raymond and Rodney Knysh and their families. Grandchildren Jason, Crystal, Tiffany (James), Bryant, Dustin, Mikayla, Riley and step-grandson Christopher, great-grandchildren Devyn and Tyana. Fern also leaves behind her sisters Shirley Plaskett of Kamloops, BC, Dawn Brock of Thunder Bay, ON, Sharon (Larry) Eye of Westwold, BC, Diane (Tibor) Babos of Grimsby, ON, Ronnie (Ed) Malcolm of Whitehorse, Yukon, her brothers Durrell Hordal of Flin Flon, MB, Dode (Heidi) Hordal of Drayton Valley, AB, Dale (Ann) Hordal of Penticton, BC and Wade (Joanne) Hordal of Kamloops, BC. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and friends. The following poem was written by Fern's mother, Mary Ethyle Hordal, who predeceased her in 1965. Life's Journey There's a trail that leads out yonder, To a land of peace and repose; Where tranquil rest awaits us, When our long day draws to a close. It's a long winding trail we must travel, Through sunshine and darkness, alone; As its troublest woes and its joys unfold And each man must travel his own. The pathway is oft times stoney, There's many a thrust from a thorn; We find ourselves halting and weary Feeling heartbroken, sick, and forlorn, Many are the times we will stumble, And many are the times we will fall; We must right ourselves and go onward, Ever meeting life's beckoning call, But there's rest at the end of our journey, When our long day draws to a close; Where we all must keep, our long last sleep, In the land of Peace and Repose. - MEH Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the Glen Eden Reception Center. In lieu of flowers a donation in her memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. We love you Mom, and will always miss you. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
