ANNA LOHRENZ Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother left us peacefully in her sleep, at the Pembina Place Mennonite Personal Care Home, on October 9, 2010. Anna Lohrenz, was born on March 9, 1912, 98 years ago in Dyurmeny, Crimea, to parents Philip Wiebe and Maria Rempel Wiebe. Along with her family, she reached Canada's shores at Saint John, NB on her 18th birthday. She settled in Domain, MB, then, with her marriage to Kornelius Voth in 1936, farmed at Ste. Elizabeth. After her husband died tragically in 1946, leaving her to care for five young children, she met and married Peter Lohrenz in 1950 and moved to Whitewater, and later to Winnipeg. Many enjoyable years were spent on Spruce Street, Dudley Crescent, and her retirement home at Bethel Place. She is survived by three siblings: Elsie Froese, Agnes Janzen (Henry), Art Wiebe (Tena); children: Mary Friesen (Orly), John Lohrenz (Dolores), Ann Winfield, Ernie Lohrenz (Donna), Ed Lohrenz (Bev), and daughter-in-law Lil Lohrenz. She adored her 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Anna was predeceased by her first husband Kornelius Voth, second husband Peter Lohrenz, one son Vern Lohrenz, son-in-law Ralph Winfield, sister Mary Froese, and brother Bill Wiebe. Anna was an excellent seamstress, creating many wedding and special occasion outfits, loved cooking, entertaining and all forms of quilting and artistic needlework. She enjoyed her work at M.C.C. when it was still on Princess Street. Donations in Anna's memory may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9. Flowers gratefully declined. Funeral service at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, located on Sargent and Garfield, Monday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m., with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow at La Salle Cemetery. Arrangements by Birchwood Funeral Chapel 1-204-346-1030 or 1-888-454-1030

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I have many fond memories of your mom, having lived with her, Mr. Lohrenz, Ann, & Eddie on Spruce St. in the early 60s. She made the best breakfasts, thin Russian pancakes with cottage cheese and cinnamon sugar! She was very accepting of all my teenage stuff, and a lot of fun to be with. I was always in awe of her beautiful hair and smile. May you as family be comforted by memories of her. Love, Hildy Schmidt Dyck - Posted by: Hildy Dyck (Family) on: Oct 14, 2010
