Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLENORA ANDERSON (GREENING) June 25, 1929 October 12, 2010 The world is not as bright today for we have lost a bright ray of sunshine. On Tuesday evening, Nora Anderson (Greening) of Winnipeg, MB, passed peacefully in the presence of her two children, Harold Anderson of Chemainus, BC and Janice O'Leary (Joe) of Winnipeg, MB. Born in Langruth, MB, Nora grew up on the family farm until moving to Winnipeg where she met and married Murray Anderson in 1950. She is predeceased by her parents, Adolph and Blondena; siblings, Julia, Adam, Ben, Esther, Lil, Mary, Ella, Eddie, Ralph, Rubin and Evelyn. She will also be sadly missed by siblings, Dan Greening of Winnipeg and Margaret Fricker (Steve), also of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth and Ruth Esther Anderson of Ladysmith, BC and the many nephews and nieces that loved and were loved by her. She was a Mother to many. Though she had only two children of her own, those who called her Mom across the country cannot be numbered, however, special condolences go to Illeane, Danielle, Marina and Matthew Anderson of Kelowna, BC and Anita Louise Holtman of Starbuck, MB, whom she cared for, for many years, and loved to the end. We finally wish to express our love for Karen Biffen, (Rob Peacock), of Vancouver, BC and Cheryl McLeod (Gord) of Winnipeg, MB. You are family, and we know you share our grief. Thank you for your love and care for Mom. Nora began her working career sewing in a factory, after which she waitressed at the Town Country in downtown Winnipeg. She was then inspired to take up hairdressing which led to her eventually owning her own salon. Mom loved sports and was a True Blue Bomber Fan right to the bitter end. She attended many Grey Cup games over the years. In the early days, she got there by train and in the later years, it was by plane. Nora had fun in life. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her and her memory will carry on. She was a world traveller. Mom often reminisced about the cruise she enjoyed so much. In 1987, she pulled up roots eventually settling in BC, where she stayed until early 2007. The family would like to express their thanks to the doctors, nurses and unit assistants at the Health Sciences Centre. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to The Canadian Cancer Society or The Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2010 at Thomson Funeral Home with reception to follow. Janice, my dear sister friend, thank-you for sharing your dear mother with me. The first time I met Nora was years ago. You were visiting Kelowna, brought your mother to my house and we hung out at the pool all weekend. She loved swimming, she loved music. We had a super weekend! Over the years, more good times flourished from then on. I loved Nora whole-heartedly. My boy, Jesse, loved his time with her. He especially loved to watch football with Nora. Wow, were they loud! Thought my T.V. was in jeopardy when their team was losing. This "old doll" loved sports? Jesse thought she was the coolest. We both loved her attitude. What a spitfire! To know Nora, is to love Nora. She was a straight shooter and told it like it was. Got to love and respect that! We were blessed to have Nora stay with us for a month before she moved back to Winnipeg. During that time, she shared many stories with me of her life, her time married to Murray, her life after Murray, and stories of you growing up and all the silly things you did as a teenager. She was a great story teller and had Jesse and I in stitches laughing often. I miss her. I miss her motherly words of wisdom and her hugs. Nora was a mother to many of your friends Janice, and I thank you for your generous spirit, for sharing her as deeply as you did with all of us. They say, "Whoever you hold in the heart of you, is forever and always a part of you". We love you Nora and we hold you dear in our heart. - Posted by: Joanne McCarthy (Friend) on: Aug 20, 2014
