Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN WAYNE (GRANT) ASMUS March 9, 1950 October 15, 2010 John Wayne (Grant) Asmus of Red Deer, AB, passed away October 15, 2010 after a short battle with cancer at the age of 60 years. Grant was born on March 9, 1950 in Cranberry Portage, Manitoba, where he spent his first 14 years. Leaving Cranberry, he went on to live in Winnipeg, Alberta and British Columbia, living in the Calgary, Edmonton and Williams Lake areas. He resided in Wabamun for the past few years, recently moving to Red Deer, AB. Over the years, Grant had his own businesses, including Lazy M Ferrier Services, Grant's Mobile Welding, Grant's Gunsmithing and The Country Gentleman DJ Services. He also worked in the trucking industry for many years. Grant had many interests including building and flying remote control airplanes, race cars, fishing and motorbike riding. Music was always a big part of his life and he loved to play his guitars, banjo, mouth organs and drums. Grant will be forever missed by his wife, Kathy; son, Kaine (Melody) Asmus; step-daughter, Jennifer Ashworth; stepson, Jamie (Twyla) Ashworth; two step-granddaughters, Paige and Norah; sisters Lorraine (Leonard) Wahl and Gayle (Fred) Wahl as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Violet Asmus (nee Cox); father, Cecil John Asmus; sister, Echo Pont and brother-in-law Harry Pont. A Memorial Service for the late Grant Asmus will take place on Friday, October 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Red Deer Funeral Home (6150 67 Street, Red Deer, AB). Memorial Tributes in Grant's name may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice (99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6.
