STEWART CARTER After a courageous battle with cancer with his family at his side, Stewart John Carter aged 74 years, passed away at his daughter's residence at New Bothwell, MB on Sunday, October 17, 2010. He is survived by his five children Kevin (Tanis) Carter, Cheryl (Cliff) Hagen, Tammi (Donnie) Foster, Norine (Kyle) Vogt, Rob (Jody) Carter; his 13 grandchildren Bridget, Crystal (Ron), Gary (Cheryl), Justin, Steven, Chantelle (Favio), Kirstie, Katie, Gavin, Chelsea, Hannah, Olivia, Sarah; seven great-grandchildren Cole, Terrell, Sydney, Garrett, Ashlyn, Madison, Isabella; also survived by his brother Morris (Edith) Carter and family, sister-in-law Jeannie (Lloyd) MacAulay and family. Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 2000, his father Jack Carter, his mother Lillian and his stepfather Frank Curiston. Stewart was born in Selkirk, MB on May 16, 1936 and was raised and educated in the Petersfield and Teulon area. He married Elizabeth Clark on November 22, 1957. He took over the family business The Carter Store on No. 8 Highway until 1973 when he moved his family east to Emo, Ontario to open a tourist establishment. He returned to Ste. Anne, Manitoba in 1980 where he took up farming and driving the school bus until retiring in the Sprague area in 2000. Dad enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, fishing, visiting at the coffee shop and loved his newspaper. Dad's greatest enjoyment however was spending time with his grandchildren and following all of their activities. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160 Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. A special thank you to Dr. Toews and Dr. Kaethler, the nurses and staff at Bethesda Cancer Care and the Palliative Care nurses Sue and Ann for their wonderful care. Friends may call to pay their respects on Wednesday, October 20 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main Street Stonewall. Funeral service will be held also at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall on Thursday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Windsor Cemetery, Teulon, MB. Pastor Sam Doerksen will officiate. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
