JAKE PETERS Jake, our beloved husband, father and grandfather went home to his Saviour on Monday, October 18, 2010. He was 79 years old. Jake F. Peters was born on July 18, 1931 to Jacob and Martha Peters. He grew up in Oakville, Manitoba, the third of eight children. Life on the farm was fun and adventurous. He enjoyed growing up there and spending time with his cousins and siblings. Jake begrudgingly left the farm to attend the University of Manitoba and graduated with a Bachelor of Education. He was teaching at Tec Voc High School when he married Margaret Froese in 1961. After their daughters Denise and Sandra were born, the family moved to Menomonie, Wisconsin, where Jake completed his Master of Science. After moving back to Winnipeg, they welcomed the birth of their daughter Stephanie. Jake resumed teaching as a guidance counsellor and started a small grain farm. Working double shifts, he still found time for family vacations, fishing, and camping. His faith and trust in God was evident in all he did. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School, driving the camp discovery bus, and being involved in the church community. But most of all Jake loved people. Jake loved his wife Margaret, his children: daughter Denise and Armin Martens, daughter Sandra and Gordon Sawatzky, daughter Stephanie and Greg Penner, and grandchildren Armin II, Corina, and Karl Martens, Martina and George Sawatzky, Michael, Samuel, and Teresa Penner. Jake was predeceased by his siblings Vern (Elaine), and Harold (Irene), and is survived by Vanita (Victor) Schmidt, Abe (Barb), Margaret (Al) Gill, George (Anita), and Henry. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Bethania Personal Care Home for their compassionate, and tender care for Jake, and their kindness to us. Donations may be made to Family Life Network, 225 Riverton Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2L 0N1. Interment will be at Oakville, Manitoba cemetery at 12:00 noon Thursday, October 21. Memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive, Winnipeg. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg.
