Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySUNNI MARIA DANELL (nee KNIVIILA) July 26, 1925 October 17, 2010 Sunni passed away peacefully on October 17, 2010. She was born in 1925 in Evijarvi, Finland to parents Karl and Betty Kniviila. Sunni came to Canada in October 1935, residing with her parents in Port Arthur, Ontario. She adapted quickly to a new country and language and moved to Winnipeg in 1945, where she met George Danell, her husband of 38 years. They were married in 1947 and moved to Lansdowne House, Ontario where George was stationed with meteorological services. Sunni became known as the Queen of the North to the bush pilots and fur traders, as she provided home cooked meals for guests. She spent 10 years in the north enjoying the fishing, family and outdoor life associated with a remote outpost, with no running water or electricity. During this time, Sunni traveled back to Winnipeg for the birth of son, Russell and daughter, Roxanne. Sunni and George left the north in 1957. Living in Winnipeg for the past 53 years, she worked at Office Overload and the Hudson's Bay Company, while raising her family in East Kildonan and East St. Paul. Sunni continued to enjoy the outdoor life with George, at their place on the Winnipeg River until George's passing in November 1985. She enjoyed cooking, her grandchildren, friends, travel and curling. Left to honour her memory are son Russell (Glenys), daughter Roxanne (Ken), grandchildren Sean, Nico and Jarod, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by both parents and sister Suoma (Dick). Special thanks to the care provided by Central Park Lodge staff during Sunni's later years. A private graveside ceremony will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sunni's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St. Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. I met Sunni last year when my Aunt moved to Central Park Lodge and became friends with Sunni. When I visited, they would be together, having a meal at the same table for two by the window, or chatting in the living room. They were kindred spirits. I attended the Christmas Concert and brought a box of chocolates for my Aunt. We discovered that Sunni really enjoyed chocolates! Needless to say, the chocolates were gone that evening and we had a good visit! I am sad that Sunni is gone; I thought she was a very kind and beautiful person. - Posted by: Audrey Rebizant (Acquaintance) on: Oct 25, 2010
