ELSIE ROCHELLE (nee CHASTKO) Elsie Rochelle passed away at the Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg on October 17, 2010 at the age of 85 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 30, 1925, the second child of Michael and Carrie Chastko in the Rural Municipality of Harrison. She is survived by brother Tom and wife Eleanor Chaston of Lockport, MB, sister-in-law Elizabeth Chastko of Sandy Lake, two nieces Maryann and Leanne Chastko, special friend Mercyl Ewashko and caregivers Abe and Carol Friesen of Winnipeg. She is also survived by many cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Victor, sisters Mary and Carrie Chastko. She attended school at Jackfish and Sandy Lake. She taught for one year at Lake Audy School, then went to Winnipeg to study and work as an accountant for a few years. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Sandy Lake Co-op for 13 years. Her work was done with great diligence and dedication. In 1960, she married Joseph Rochelle and together they managed hotels in Churchill and Beausejour, MB, and in Buchanan, SK. While living in Churchill she was recognized as an artist and enjoyed painting until she suffered a stroke. Elsie had an unwavering faith and great devotion to the Virgin Mary. After retiring as an accountant, she became sacristan at St. Mary's Cathedral in Winnipeg for 13 years. She was a volunteer and worked side by side with the Sisters of Service and Franciscan Missionary of Mary. Mass of the Resurrection will be said on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Jackfish. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Father James deBeer will officiate. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Elsie can be made to a charity of one's choice.
