Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH MAY EVANS December 6, 1919 October 20, 2010 Edith May Evans passed away peacefully on October 20, 2010 at her Luther Special Care Home residence in Saskatoon. Edith was born on the family farm near Spy Hill, Saskatchewan on December 6, 1919 to Bert and Hilda Potter. In 1940, Edie moved to Winnipeg in search of employment. She held a number of jobs in the early years, but when she began working at Investors Syndicate in 1945, she found the employer to whom she would remain a dedicated and loyal employee until her retirement in 1984. It was in Winnipeg that Edith met and married Frederick Evans in 1950. Edith and Fred bought a home in East Kildonan, where they lived until Fred's passing in 1996. Edith developed many dear and lifelong friendships in this neighbourhood. She always brought at least one as a guest on her annual trip to Saskatchewan. By bringing them into our homes, these friends, in particular Jean, became part of our lives as well. Edith was an avid lover of animals, caring not only for her own cats, but for neighbourhood pets as well. In addition, Edith had a green thumb, and took pride in her flower gardens, yard, and home on Helmsdale Avenue. Edie's sharp wit and quick sense of humour were known and enjoyed by all. She retained this sense of humour long after her physical capabilities began to fail. Edith was predeceased by her parents; her only sister Aileen (Bud) Blenkin; and her husband Fred. In 1997 she moved to Saskatoon to be closer to nieces and cousins, leaving behind dear friends, neighbours, and her home of 47 years. Edith is survived by four nieces and families; Hildamae Lutz, Grace Binst, Catherine (Ed) Balaberda, Lois Perepiltz, one aunt and numerous cousins and their families. It was Edith's wish to be cremated and that no service is held. A private interment will take place at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens at a later date to enable attendance by her family and friends. Donations may be made to the SPCA or the Winnipeg Humane Society (45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3) in recognition of her fondness for animals. Special thanks to the staff at Luther Special Care Home, the caregivers, as well as the friends and family who shared a part of Edith's life.
