DOUGLAS NAPOLEON FONTAINE May 9, 1944 - October 20, 2010 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Douglas Napoleon (Canada) Fontaine on October 20, 2010 at the age of 66 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his partner of 39 years, Marie Eaglestick and their precious children: Kevin, Steve (Loni), Desmond (Crystal), Geraldine, Stacy, Mary (Gerald) and Kristin (Jason), as well as 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, he also leaves his siblings: Freda Lillian (Stanford), Ambrose, Norman (Verdine), Sandra (Dennis), brothers-in-law Louie (Nancy) and Harry (Virginia), father-in-law John, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Douglas was predeceased by his son Doug Jr. in 1997, his parents Joseph Gus Fontaine and Irene Fontaine (nee Twoheart), his good friend Sid Courchene earlier this year, siblings: Frank (Susan), George, Howard, John, Alphonse and Josephine, as well as his Uncle Les Gus . A residential school survivor, Canada, as he was known, worked as Sagkeeng's finest plumber for many years. He was crew boss as a bush firefighter and had one of the most reliable crews around. Canada loved hunting with anyone of his sons, as well as just driving Highway 11. He will be greatly missed. Wake services began on Thursday, October 21 at his residence in Sagkeeng First Nation and will continue till Sunday evening. Funeral service will follow on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church also in Sagkeeng. Cremation will follow.
