NOREEN ANNETTE SHERMAN (NAMAKA) After a courageous four and one half year battle with metastatic breast cancer, Noreen passed away at Riverview Health Centre on Tuesday morning October 19, 2010 with her mother at her side. Born in Dauphin on May 5, 1965, she lived there with her parents until April 1967 when the family moved to Thompson. In 1976, the family moved to Winnipeg. After high school, Noreen took a course in esthetics, working as an esthetician in Winnipeg then Vancouver for six years. She moved back to Winnipeg in 1995 making a career change to a Health Care Aide and worked for Home Care for 14 years until her diagnosis of breast cancer in April 2006. After surgery and treatment, she went back to school at Red River Community College to upgrade her skills in Health Care graduating with honours. She was then employed by St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre until she relapsed in May of 2009. Despite her illness, Noreen remained positive and faced life with determination to conquer this disease. She was a devoted mother putting her sons first and despite her busy life found time to volunteer at their schools and Earl Grey Community Club. She was a dedicated and proud member of the Chemo Savvy Dragon Boat Team. She is survived by her sons K-Shawn and Taris Sherman, loving parents Paul and Joyce Namaka, sister Denise Namaka, Aunts and Uncles, Edna Stefishen (George), Florence McCullough (Don), Clifford Dyrkacz (Robbie), Joan Namaka, Walter and Sonia Namaka, step-grandmother Nellie Namaka, their families and other extended family including her sisterhood in the Chemo Savvy Dragon Boat Team. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Stanley and Patricia Dyrkacz, Nick and Mary Namaka, Uncles Bill Stefishen, Marvin Namaka and Sam Namaka. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Sharkey, Dr. Murray Wilson, Dr. Ed Buschel, Dr. Mariaane Krahn and Terez, Dr. Boris Valev, Dr. Liu all the doctors and nurses at CancerCare, St. Boniface, (Eva, Tammy, Karen). Thank you to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Health Centre, words cannot express the gratitude for the care you gave Noreen. Thank you Lorraine Bremaulet and Danielle at Riverview for being there when Noreen needed you most. Thank you to the members of the Chemo Savvy Dragon Boat Team. Your help and support is immeasurable. According to her wishes, Noreen will be cremated and a Celebration of her life will take place at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 29, 2010 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (near the Mint) with Father Roland Lanoie officiating. Interment will take place after the service at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Noreen's memory to CancerCare MB, Palliative Care Unit, Riverview Health Centre, Chemo Savvy Dragon Boat Team (Maryland Postal Outlet, P.O. Noreen, I will miss you so much and often, as you were the one in the Family with a flair for fashion. Your fabulous sweet potato and pecan pie recipe made many tummies very happy.
