FRANK REID Frank Reid passed away peacefully on Friday, October 15, 2010, at age 91, after a full and active life. Born in Milestone, Saskatchewan, Frank became a radio operator for the former Trans Canada Airlines and then went on to intercept wireless messages for the government during the Second World War as a senior radio operator. He was on duty the night the Bismarck was sunk. It was during the war he met his lovely wife of 66 years, Mabel. Frank graduated from the Capital Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, DC and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bradley University in Illinois. He ran his own electronics business before becoming an instructor and department head for Red River College. He was an avid doer. He built three houses and a cottage from scratch, designed and built much of his own furniture, jewelry, and ham radio equipment with which he spoke to the world. Frank was an impassioned rock hound and so was intensely interested in gemology, mineralogy, and lapidary. Frank was a long time member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists, the Wildlife Federation of Manitoba, and the Winnipeg Rock and Mineral Club, serving as its president. Frank is predeceased by two of his siblings, Don and Lloyd, and brother-in-law Roy Birtwistle. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mabel, by his children Beverley Reid, Larry Reid (Antonia Lancaster), his grandson Whitney Ota (Veronica Lawrence), his sister Florence Birtwistle, his sisters-in-law Barbara Reid and Rose Reid, as well as by his 21 nieces and nephews. The family is grateful for the loving care given by the people of both Lindenwood Manor and Health Sciences Centre. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Frank's life on Monday, October 25, 2:00 p.m., at Lindenwood Manor, 475 Lindenwood Drive East, Winnipeg, (Heritage Entrance). Frank, goodbye, we will miss you. ...and Grace will bring me home... Chapel Lawn 885-9715
