Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVICTOR BLACK On Tuesday, October 19, 2010 Vic Black passed away peacefully at the Charleswood Care Centre at the age of 94. Victor is survived by daughter Wendy Smyth and special friend Rhoda Cummings. He is predeceased by his mother Helen (nee Humphreys) in 1943, Father Robert Charles in 1946, and beloved wife Kathleen (Kay) (nee Cross) in 1988. Victor was born April 2, 1916. The Black family moved many times in Victor's early years requiring a change of schools; grade one in Saskatoon, followed by Nelson, BC, Vancouver, BC, Los Angeles, Portland, Oregon, Ballycastle Co., Antrim Northern Ireland, and finally General Wolf and Daniel MacIntyre in Winnipeg. His first job (during the depression) in 1933 was a messenger for Imperial Optical and in 1935 he joined the T. Eaton Co. optical department. In 1940 (Second World War) he joined the RCAF where he served until 1945. January 2, 1943 (leave from the Air Force) he married Kay in Ottawa. Victor then returned to Eaton's until retirement. He worked part time with several optical companies for a few years. Victor was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist Boston, Mass. As well as a member of the Ophthalmic Dispenser's of Manitoba, and on their council for two terms. He enjoyed lawn bowling with the River Heights Lawn Bowling Club. If friends wish donations may be made to a charity of their choice. Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
