JESSIE SAUNDERS (nee HARROW) (formerly WRIGHT) Jessie Saunders of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2010. Jessie was born November 11, 1920. After teaching children of Canadian servicemen overseas, she taught in the St. James School Division for most of her career, was Principal of Cecil Rhodes School and then became involved with developing the Physical Fitness Program for the Department of Education of Manitoba. Jessie, as Deputy Director of Education for the Province, was responsible for founding and formulating the curriculum for the Early Childhood Education Program. It was adopted in Manitoba and became a benchmark for other provinces as well. Jessie was a longtime member of the University Women's Club and dedicated her life to service for her community and the people of Manitoba. The lengthy list of volunteer work, Boards, Committees, Councils and Guilds she served on will be on her memorial page. Jessie's passing was preceded by her loving husband, William Saunders. They came together in later years and brought great joy to each other. Although Jessie had no children of her own, she was lovingly welcomed and adopted' into her new family and nicknamed (by Danielle) as our GiGi. She leaves behind a family she warmly embraced as her own: Robert Saunders and son Adam; Serge and Jan Desrosiers and their daughter Danielle and son Rémi; James and Karen Saunders and their daughter Katie and son Matthew; Donna Saunders and her son Dan, and daughters April and Haley. Jessie was preceded by her former husband Claude Wright. Please come celebrate her life with us at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Friday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. Following the memorial service, light refreshments will be served in the adjacent room, as we share a time of remembrance. We would like to express our gratitude to West Park Manor Personal Care Home for making her last years as comfortable and happy as possible. Jessie did love flowers, but she would wish you to consider a memorial donation to the Manitoba Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba, 247 Provencher Blvd., a cause she dearly loved. (Please note: Not the Heart and Stroke Foundation) Jessie will be laid to rest near her beloved husband William in Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
