Date of Passing: Oct 23, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNINA ZAIKOW Mom passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Concordia Hospital after a determined and hard fought struggle. Nina was born November 15, 1927 and grew up in Matlock, Manitoba, living most of her life in Transcona. She will be dearly remembered and always missed by her daughter Susan Zaikow and grandson Scott Zaikow (Erin Parsons). She was predeceased by her husband Peter and son Randy, as well as her siblings Joe, Charlie, Victor, Ann, Rose and Frances. She is survived by several sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews. Nina was a wonderful homemaker, and excelled at baking bread and cinnamon buns, as well as the best chicken soup with homemade noodles. Her talents included embroidery, crocheting and knitting. She loved going to bingo and enjoyed the casino, where she preferred the quarter machines. She was a friend, a supporter and a great listener, with a wicked sense of humour. She was challenged in later years by diminishing eyesight and mobility problems, but she persevered, living independently in her apartment until the last. We would like to thank the staff of I.C.U. at both Concordia and Seven Oaks Hospitals for their compassionate and tender care of Mom. A celebration of Nina's life will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Ave. West. Interment to follow at the Transcona Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. A donation in Nina's memory to Concordia Hospital, 1095 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg MB R2K 3S8 would be deeply appreciated.
