Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELVA MOTHERAL August 5, 1926 - October 23, 2010 With sadness, her family announces the peaceful passing of Elva Motheral at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg. Elva was born on the family farm at Snowflake, Manitoba. She received her early education at Snowflake School and attended United College in Winnipeg for Grade 12. She moved with her parents to Manitou in 1944. Elva taught school on permit from January to June 1945 at Lorne School in the Darlingford Area. She then went to United College where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree. This was followed by a year at the Faculty of Education, University of Manitoba. Later in her career she obtained M.A. and M.E degrees at the University of Manitoba. Included in her teaching career were Boissevain and Manitou High Schools, Success Business College, and Isaac Newton High School which became Sisler Collegiate, Winnipeg. In 1967 she accepted a position as English Professor in the Faculty of Education, University of Manitoba, a position she held until her retirement in 1989. While there she co-conducted several summer study tours on Background of English Literature in England and Scotland. After retirement from the University of Manitoba, Elva acted as part-time Language Arts consultant for Frontier School Division. She truly enjoyed teaching and had a lasting interest in her students. Elva will be remembered for her love of and loyalty to her family and friends. Her other interests included reading, theatre, gardening, golfing, bowling, and travelling in Canada, Europe, the United States, the Channel Islands, and a Panama Canal cruise. Elva was predeceased by her parents, Rienzi and Lavina Motheral. She is survived by her sister Velma, her brother and sister-in-law Howard and Violet, nieces Susan Woods (Sarah and Hollande), Shelagh (Nick) Polischuk (Craig and Andrea), Andrea Wattman (Ben, Emily, Nolan), Shawna (Chris) Hook, nephew Barrie Woods, and several cousins. Elva became a victim of Alzheimers and her last three years were spent as a resident of Riverview Health Centre. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the wonderful care she received from the staff in Units AB 1 and 2. Funeral services will be held at Manitou United Church at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2010. Interment will be in Manitou Cemetery. Graham's Funeral Home, Pilot Mound is in care of arrangements.
