BERNHARD (BEN) HILDEBRAND It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Bernhard (Ben) Hildebrand on Saturday, October 30, 2010. He is survived by his wife Sheila, son Craig, daughter-in-law Vicki, grandchildren Michael and Sarah, brothers Jake, Peter (Stella), John, Raymond (Mary), and sister Katie (Rudolf) He was predeceased by his son Curtis, his parents, brothers Abe and Dave, sisters Nettie, Mary and Shirley. Ben was born on February 17, 1929 at the family home in Lowe Farm to Abram and Aganetha Hildebrand. He attended school in Rosefarm, and as a teenager he helped out by working on neighbouring farms. He also had a stint painting grain elevators. When he moved to Winnipeg, he was employed as a glazier, installing windows and storefronts. Ben was a real handy man, always trying to make improvements to any tool or gadget around, sometimes even successfully. In his younger years he was quite a good baseball player. He used to play golf but had to give it up a few years ago. He enjoyed going on winter holidays, loved exotic locations but hated the plane ride to get there. Ben was an avid reader and enjoyed reading and watching TV (especially baseball) when he became too ill to do anything else. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 4 at 11:00 a.m., at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., with Rev. Carol Fletcher officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ben's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice. Weep not for me, I'm free from pain My earthly sufferings are o'er I hope to meet you all again On a peaceful, happy shore.
