Winston was born in the mining town of Beresford Lake and grew up in Bissett, Manitoba. He attended Teachers College in Winnipeg and during his career also earned his Bachelor of Education degree. He loved the 35 years he devoted to teaching junior high youth of Manitoba in various schools. Many of these kids will remember Mr. B as a special influence in their lives. As a sportsman, Winston was passionate about his hockey in his earlier years, switching to the gentler sports of golf and curling later on in life. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • This comes years after his passing but I want to impress upon you the difference Mr Barton made on my life. He was my teacher in grade 7 to grade 9, when I was a stumbling teenager trying to figure out life. He was also my main supporter as I dealt with bullying in the school from other students. I was walking down memory lane today and hoped to find him on Facebook and send him a friendly hello, and thank you. He helped me believe in myself when it was very difficult for me to find that within myself. He, in many ways, saved my life and helped me see I had choices. After I left Central School I visited him at John Gunn and he always made time for me. Always encouraged me and helped me feel good about my goals and my life. I hope whoever reads this can appreciate the sentiment behind my words despite the years gone by since Mr Barton's passing. He made an impact that stays with me today, at age 48. Thank you. • First off I was not aware of Winston's passing until quite sometime after the fact. Having said that we spent many very enjoyable times teaching together at Springfield Jr. High as well as many fun activities outside the school. I always considered Winston a man that showed me the way in my own teaching career and had a great deal of admiration for his educational ideas and beliefs and considered him a mentor for me. Gone but never forgotten and I know that I'll be seeing you somewhere sometime. Thanks for all the pleasant memories that we shared together. Your buddy Wayne. - Posted by: Wayne Williams (Teaching Buddies and a good friend.) on: Jun 06, 2013
