SHIRLEY RAE SORBY (nee WAUGH) March 4, 1948 - November 8, 2010 With great sadness, we announce the passing of adored mother, spouse and grandmother Shirley Rae Sorby. Shirley leaves to mourn her spouse of 15 years, Rod Cockell, her son Jason Sorby (Jenn) and daughter Elise Downey (Darren). Grandma's hugs and kisses will be greatly missed by her granddaughters Brooke, Brynne and Braelyn. Shirley never quite made it to meet her unborn granddaughter Olive but promised she'll be watching over her. Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Wayne Sorby, in 1995. She will be missed by her mother, sisters, friends and extended family. Shirley stayed home 20 years to raise her children. She was a devoted mother and wife who took great pleasure in their accomplishments. In 1992 Shirley adopted her beloved dogs Amos and Andy. The boys kept Shirley active and running around her 1.5 acres. Shirley returned to the workforce in the early 1990s and took pride in every job she held. For the last six years she enjoyed working at Hallmark at McIvor Mall. The most important thing to Shirley was her family. She enjoyed watching movies, visiting Rod's family in British Columbia, gardening, talking on the phone and shopping up a storm. Grandma never missed a birthday party, dance recital or Christmas concert. Shirley spent the last weeks of her life at Health Sciences Centre and her family wishes to thank the staff for their help and support. During her battle with cancer, Shirley was constantly surrounded by the love and compassion of family and friends, which helped ease her pain. She touched the lives of many and will always live in our hearts and memories. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 12 at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St. in West St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley's name to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 787-4143.
