WINIFRED STREET (nee ELLIS) On November 10, 2010, Win Street passed away in Winnipeg. Remaining to cherish her memory are her son Jim (Lisa), her daughter Eileen (Gary), grandsons Ryan (Melissa) and Jarrod (Michelle) and her great-granddaughters, Haley and Teagin. Also remembering her are family in England, especially nieces Barbara and Margaret of Yorkshire. Win was predeceased by her husband and best friend Cliff in 1984, and her son David in 1991. She has been predeceased by her parents and siblings. Win was born on February 4, 1919, in Leeds, England. She lived the first 30 years of her life in her homeland, enduring the challenges of the Second World War with her compatriots. Her inherent strength and determination enabled her to be an active participant in the war effort, and it was during this time that she met the love of her life, Cliff, her gallant Canadian soldier stationed in England. Four years after the war she sailed to Canada to marry Cliff and build life and family in Fort Rouge. Win and Cliff were blessed with their three children and took immense pride in the arrival of their grandsons. Win worked for many years at the Bay Downtown and, with Cliff, became one of the original residents of Bethel Place, where she lived for all but a few months of the remaining 30 years of her life. Although stricken by the loss of husband and her eldest son, and challenged with her own health issues, her strength saw her through to witness the joyous arrival of her great-granddaughters. Win's family wishes to thank The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for caring for her with love and dignity in her last days. In the wake of her passing, a memorial gathering will take place on November 16 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Goodbye my family My life is past I loved you all to the very last Weep not for me But courage take Love each other, for my sake For those you love Don't go away They walk beside you everyday Chapel Lawn 885-9715
