AGNES BERNICE CHASE (nee STEELE) The family is sad to announce the passing of Bernice Chase on November 10, 2010 at the Poseidon Care Home in Winnipeg at the age of 84 years. Bernice was born November 1, 1926 in Cartwright, Manitoba, the youngest child of William and Agnes Steele. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 31 years, Lloyd George Chase, in 1983. Bernice graduated from Business College in Winnipeg and worked for several years as a secretary. She married Lloyd Chase in 1952 in St. Paul's United Church in Winnipeg. For many years Bernice and Lloyd lived in the Medical Centre Apartments on Notre Dame Avenue near the Health Sciences Centre where Lloyd was employed. They opened their home frequently to anyone from out-of-town, particularly those who might have friends or relatives in the hospital. A compassionate woman with a good heart who loved to laugh, Bernice was devoted to her husband, family and friends. She was fond of cards and games, particularly Bingo, and the Lawrence Welk Show. Bernice is survived by her sister, Jean Loewen of Brandon, brother Lloyd Steele of Sparks, Nevada, nieces Sharon Nickle and Sandra Johnston of Toronto and Keremeos, BC respectively and nephew Dale Watts of Winnipeg, as well as great-nieces and nephews. Bernice was predeceased by her brothers Bill and Allen Steel and by her sister Marjorie (Steele) Watts. A graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg on Wednesday, November 17 at 3:00 p.m. The family thanks the Poseidon Care Home sincerely for their patience and care for Bernice during the years she resided there.
