JUDY BRIGGS, R.N. Judy died peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, on Wednesday, November 11, 2010, after a long, full life. Always known as Judy, she was named Olive Ruth when she was born on June 15, 1917 at Leicester, England, the second of the three children of John Challis and Rose Ruth Garrard. She was the widow of Dr. Edmund James Seeds Nixon Briggs, F.R.C.P., always known as Jim. They met during wartime when both worked at Charing Cross Hospital, London, and were married in 1945 at St. Martin-in-the-Fields. Her daughter, Jane Roberts, of Toronto, and her son, Rodney Briggs, of Vancouver, and their families survive her. She was predeceased by her siblings, David Garrard and Margaret Garrard. Judy was an enthusiastic supporter of the arts, including the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Winnipeg Symphony and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. She had a profound love of nature a knowledgeable wildflower enthusiast and ditch-bottomer , an expert gardener and a friend to all manner of birds and wildlife (with the notable exception of Iggy, her son's iguana!). Judy received exemplary care from the staff at Riverview, and her Winnipeg friends have been constant in their support and affection. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, 10 December at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation.
